Bulk Import Plug-in released for MetaVis Classifier for SharePoint

MetaVis Technologies has added a bulk importing enhancement to its SharePoint product family (available for public beta trial on March 8th, 2009). The new plug-in for MetaVis Classifier simultaneously imports and tags files from local computers, networks or other storage into SharePoint and includes the following features and benefits:

  • Bulk Importing and Tagging/Classification - users can select multiple files/documents for importing into SharePoint and simultaneously assign field values to the entire import.

  • Familiar User interface - utilizes a Windows Explorer-like interface with "Drag-and-Drop" functionality.

  • Eliminate Problem with "Checked-Out" Files after Import - Unlike SharePoint's native import utility, MetaVis Bulk Import allows users to fill in required fields. All imported files are immediatelly available to users.

  • Findable and Organized -since users populate key field values during import and do it on a mass scale, they are more likely to do the classification. The new import can be indexed immediately, resulting in a better organized repository and findable content.

From administrators struggling with too much content that was simply dumped into their SharePoint environment, to users working to categorize and locate their content, tagging and moving files in bulk has always been a challenge in SharePoint. MetaVis Classifier Bulk Import Plug-In is designed to ease that burden by providing users a simple interface copy large volumes of content from your local storage to different content types, lists/libraries, sites, site collections and even servers or clouds.

To assign metadata, SharePoint forces users to open each document individually. Classifier provides a simple way to tag many files that share common metadata values. This greatly accelerates and encourages the assignment of metadata, which makes content more "findable", compliant and usable.

Compare and Synchronize SharePoint Sites with MetaVis

MetaVis Technologies has released a major enhancement to MetaVis for SharePoint. The new release (available for beta trial on January 5th) includes functionality to compare and synchronize two or more SharePoint sites. This feature has many uses in a multi-site SharePoint environment including:

  • Compliance - as new site and site collections are added to the SharePoint environment, ensuring that site schemas remain consistent or compliant with a specific standard is extremely challenging.

  • Replication/Synchronization - conversely users may want to create new sites or update existing ones to match the schema of another site.

  • Multi-Stage Deployment - when moving from a development environment to production, administrators often need to move all or part of a site's schema without bringing over content from development.

The compare operation will identify any differences in SharePoint schemas, including columns, content types and lists and allow you to selectively or completely synchronize two or more sites.
